West Berkshire Floods 20th July 2007

Like many other places in the country this year, the floods hit West Berkshire on Friday the 20th of July swamping many parts of the county under several inches of water.

The pictures below show some of the local pubs hit by the rising water.

Here The Plough in Thatcham looks ready to be washed away by the cascading tides flowing down the A4.

In a scene some might recognise from the national news, school children in Aldermaston had to be rescued by life raft. Here they are being towed past The Hind's Head pub in the village.

A torrent of rain water flows past The Four Points pub in Aldworth

The Swan in Great Shefford looks like it needs to live up to its name as the waters rise.

Another Swan, this time in East Ilsley.

The George Hotel (on the left) in Lambourn looks out onto a flooded street.

On a serious note, many of our local pubs have been badly hit this year, not just with the terrible floods, but by a dismal summer on whole. Make sure you make the most of the few nice days that we are having by supporting your locals and enjoying the summer weather when it does come!
