(For a pdf version of this letter please click here) 25/09/2007 Printed on the 13th of September, this following story ran in the Newbury Weekly News. Hopefully this will spell some good news for The Swan!
Original Story - 26/07/2007 West Berks CAMRA have been most concerned over the state and also the future of The Swan public house in Compton. The pub suffered a fire over 15 months ago and apart from boarding the place up and making minimal efforts in advertising for new tenants, the owners, Greene King, don't seem to be doing an awful lot about the situation. Amazingly Greene King's advert for the tenancy on their website seems to suggest that the new tenants should fork out for the fixtures & fittings part of the refurbishment! Quite how they expect anyone to be able to afford this sort of deal is beyond me! For a sizable village like Compton, an active public house is vital for village life and social well-being and it is vital that Greene King begin the restoration process as soon as possible West Berks CAMRA chairman Adrian Bean, has sent this letter to Greene King management and we hope for a speedy reply containing good news. As they say in the business Watch this Space!
The Swan at Compton looking very sad for itself. Let's hope Greene King meet the
promise stated on the old pub sign! |
