Winners - The Dundas Arms, Kintbury

The West Berkshire branch of CAMRA has chosen its Pub of the Year for 2009. The pub is the Dundas Arms, Kintbury.

Adrian Bean presents landlord David Dalziel-Piper with his award.

The Dundas Arms is a free house that stocks local ale from breweries such as Butts, West Berkshire Brewery and Ramsbury. The landlord is David Dalziel-Piper, who has been at the pub since 1967, when it was originally a Morland’s Pub. He bought the pub in 1969 and converted it to a free house, which means he has been a landlord for forty years.

Adrian Bean, Chairman of West Berkshire CAMRA had this to say ‘within West Berkshire we have about 200 pubs and picking a pub of year is always tricky. We look for beer quality first, then look at the pub and how it is run. We have a number of stunning pubs, for example the Six Bells, Beenham (last years winner), the Bell, Aldworth (former CAMRA National Pub of the year), Downgate, Hungerford, Fox Inn, Hermitage, Castle, Cold Ash and the Lock, Stock & Barrel, Newbury. The Dundas Arms has been a regular in the Good Beer Guide, does really good local ale and is an integral part of the Kintbury Community. David has seen a lot of changes in the forty years that he been running the pub, but one thing has remained constant that is David serves good quality beer.’
