West Berkshire CAMRA

The West Berkshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale covers the area of the Royal County west of a line from Aldworth to Aldermaston (below), and includes the towns of Newbury, Thatcham, Hungerford and Lambourn. It was formed in 1986 as a successor to the former Newbury branch, which was set up in 1974.

Meetings are held twice a month at a different pub in this area, usually on a Wednesday evening, and are open to all-comers, members or non-members. The first meeting in the month is normally a social get-together; the second one deals with business.

As part of its campaigning activity the branch organises social functions (such as an annual beer-based dinner), brewery visits and a home-brewing competition, and campaigns very hard against the closure of rural pubs.

West Berks CAMRA's main campaigning organ is its free bi-monthly newsletter, ‘Ullage’, of which 2,000 copies are printed and distributed to more than 70 pubs and other outlets within a 12-mile radius of Newbury.
