On 24 March, Tim Thomas presented the branch's award to Denis Brown, The Hungerford Club's chairman.
Once again, The Hungerford Club has retained the title of Club of the Year, awarded by the West Berkshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
The popular and friendly sports and social club based in The Croft, Hungerford, held its fourth annual beer festival in August 2015 and has championed the cause of real ale in clubs for many years.
Presenting the award to Chairman Denis Brown, at the club on Thursday 24 March, Tim Thomas congratulated the club on winning the award for the sixth consecutive year. Denis said 'This is the first year with Colin Currill being responsible for ordering and maintaining the quality of the beer served at the club and we hope our winning tradition will continue with Colin as Club Steward.' He added 'CAMRA members are always welcome at The Hungerford Club.' Colin, who became Club Steward on 15 November, said 'After driving 50,000 miles a year in my previous job I enjoy being able to walk to work for a change.' He added 'Fuller's London Pride is the permanent beer at the club's bar and to give our members a choice we have a changing guest ale and an additional choice of bottled beers.'
CAMRA members present for the occasion complimented Colin on the high standard of the Ramsbury Gold guest ale served during the evening.
The Hungerford Club now goes forward to the Central Southern regional stage of the CAMRA Club of the Year competition. The other clubs in the regional stage are Wargrave Snooker Club, Goring Social Club and Royal British Legion Club, Marlow.
